The world is becoming ever more volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous, and companies in every sector need to take this into account to invest in the right opportunities and become more resilient. The megatrends that will shape the world in the next decades are well-known: ageing population, climate change, urbanization, emergence of new technologies as well as an increased focus on responding fast to consumers’ needs and expectations. In the engineering and construction industry, the megatrends translates into the following tranformations:
- The increasing use of data in the energy, mobility and water delievry markets offers responses to growing urbanization
- The rapid development of renewable energies, decentralized grids as well as new storage solutions enables the energy transition to decarbonize our economies
- 3D-printing of building elements, off-site production and modular designs are being used to save time and reduce costs and waste
- The Building Information Modelling (BIM) approach is being deployed from the design of buildings to their operation and maintenance, allowing to harness data to reduce the environmental impacts of projects over their life-cycle.
- New construction ecosystems with more integrated value chains between different actors are also progressively emerging, promising an even faster transformation of our sector.
